I have been cleaning up the boat for launch and the water and electric systems needed some organizing.
So I am in the hold and see a blower.
The flex hose is almost dead and the output flex just blows into
the hold compartment. The Electric panel has a switch for the
blower. I know the reason for a blower on a gas engine.

What is the purpose of the blower on a diesel engine???

I removed the blower and hoses so I could clean up the compartment. Should I put it back?

The blower is there to ventilate... to remove heat from the engine box after running a bunch .. The hose may have rotted off the outlet fitting.. probably a cowl vent on the stern or the combing. Technically, the blower is not required on a diesel but most likely, a previous owner put it there to keep the aft cabin from being so toasty in the summer after a motor trip.Your call on replacement. If you have an air conditioner, I would definitely put it back. If no AC, think about toastiness on anchor.

Our '85 H'31 did NOT have a blower. I think someone added this, but I do not think it has any need on these boats.

I've had a deteriorating mixing elbow and didn't realize it. Planned on installing a ventilation system to pull exhaust leakage out, but I recently had the elbow replaced and it's running much better now.

I may still do the installation and I'll use an "off delay" 12V relay to start the fan when the engine starts or with a push button, and keep it running for 5 min on a timer after shut down.

No blower here either. Up here in the Pacific Northwest I open the top step to let the heat warm up the cabin! That heat is actually useful...
