I am having trouble finding any wood to match my current cabin interior. When I've bought "teak" several times, it is more brown whereas my interior is more redish perhaps. Is it maybe cherry instead? My boat is a 1994 Hunter Legend 37.5 Photo attached. thanks,

Not cherry. Any pictures of a bigger area of the wood - maybe a little less upholstery? Another possibility might be mahogany. I'm sure other Hunter owners will be able to tell you what interior woods were available.

It looks like mahogany in the first picture. The doors have a teak look to them. Mahogany, however, is harder to pin down because there are a number of varieties and substitutes that are simply classified by marketers under the term mahogany. Sapele, meranti, Philippine, African, etc. I don't think there are many substitutes for teak. Your interior may mix mahogany type woods, even.

Is very difficult to get a great match on wood. Even the same exact wood will look different as it ages. You can get some wood that has matching grain and stain it to match the color, but even this will age differently. One trick is to get contrasting or complimentary wood, e.g. "I know it doesn't match, I did that on purpose."

Why would Hunter manufacturing not tell you directly what wood type and finish would be most likely used on your boat?

I don't think Hunter ever made a production sailboat with cherry or mahogany.
Your boat was made several years ago. Since then, teak supplies became sporadic and inconsistent. Suppliers have changed since the boat was made.
Finish treatments by PO's change the look compared to new supplies
So, unlikely you will ever get it all to match unless you refinish the entire boat,
and then that's no guarantee.
BTW, solid teak trim and teak veneer panels will never look quite the same.
Do your best and enjoy your boat.

Most all the cabinetry and bulkheads in our 1991 boat were made with teak. Using a good quality teak oil will help to balance the teak wood tone throughout. The teak holly sole is a different matter. Most Hunter soles were sealed with a poly coat to help protect against abrasion.

Hard to tell from your photos but it looks to me like you have a couple different kinds of wood in that interior. The wood tone does not look like teak to me. They could have used a stain.

The interior panels of the doors in your saloon, I think that's where the second photo was taken, look more like Sapele from what little I can see. It's certainly not Cherry. Beautiful wood whatever you have there....
