If it is a gas engine it would have points and a distributor. It would also have spark plugs and plug wires. If it is a desiel it would not have any of these components. If it is a gasoline engine and you have the manual you can find the plug gaps etc. or your marine supply store will be able to provide the infromation. there is really no upgrade except the quality of the components.
