I remember someone talking about your hight above the waterline/sealevel and the effect on the distance of the visible horizon. Anyone know a formula?

1.17 times the square root of your height of eye = Distance to the horizon in nautical miles

Don't forget height of your eye above water level

If you standing at the helm, consider the height of your eye above water level, it'll usually add some distance to the horizon. At 7.6', I see about 3.7 nm., but haze, fog, etc. reduces that too.
