If I get a Hunter 216, I plan to get surge brakes put on the trailer. Does anyone know whether disk or drum brakes would apply better for the 216 trailer? Also, does anyone know what price one would expect to pay to get the trailer retrofitted with surge brakes? I assume any RV trailer shop could do it... I was told by some Hunter rep that one might be able to special order a trailer (if buying new) with surge brakes for around $600 more. But surge brakes are not yet an official option for the 216....

Disk, esp in salt water

They are easier to wash down and inspect than drum brakes, but disk brakes lock when backing up so you need to put a pin in the coupler to disable when backing, or insert a presure release valve that is activated by your backup lights. I prefer the disk brakes. Check championtrailers.com for add on kits and request their catalog which includes installation instructions, too. Fair winds and roads, Tom

also put a washdown system on the trailer, you can hook a hose up and it will flush the back of the wheels and brakes for you. little tubes run water up and spray it on the wheels.
