Discolored plexiglass windows

I've got a question regarding discolored plexiglass windows on the sides of our sailboat. They have turned an undesirable color and we would like to make them a dark charcoal/black tint. The easy fix would be to go out and buy new plexiglass, but short of doing that, is there a way to tint them which would be a more frugal alternative??? We tried the static cling window film which is applied to the plexiglass from the inside. It still leaves the outside of the window with the undesirable color, but the inside looks OK. THe product instructions for the film say that it is not appropriate to apply to the exterior surface of the window as it will not hold up to the weather. SO, is it possible to tint plexiglass with a dye or some other product??? Please share your thoughts as it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all your help!

Try plastic dealers if your handy

I don't know what kind of boat you have so take heed to this idea. (if your not planning on crossing and ocean.)I would call around some plastic distributors. I once had to do this on an item that was discontiued. I bought a small sheet of plastic, used the old as a template, cut and fit and went on my merry way. In my case it worked. Good luck.

Try cleaning it

Cyndy, Meguiars and some other companies make products that will clear plastic windows on convertibles, headlight covers etc. I use Meguiars on our convertible window and it works well. Check the web site for the actual name, I think it is Plastic Polish# 17. If you use a buffer, it will do amazing things. You can also call or e mail them to ask if it will work.
