We are installing a new holding tank and have the option of installing the exit hose on the lower side or bottom. I see most are lower side mounted but figure a bottom mount would allow more complete pump out. Is there a problem with installing with discharge at bottom of tank?

Bill I purchased a 27 gallon tank made by ronco and the factory tec Bill helped me out tremendously. I ended up with a top drain out that worked best for my situation, they built in a drop tube to the bottom of the tank. I had them do the head into the very top of the side and the vent on top. They have probably 500 tanks in stock and u can have the opening put where u want them.....Red

I think all tanks would be made this way if it weren't for the problem of gaining access to the underside of the tank.

Bottom exit: if the coupling or hose clamp leaks, you got a leak. Gravity !

Top or near top exit: with a drop tube is the best. If you got a leak, nothing happen. Unless you filled the tank past the top ;-(

We opted to have a bottom fitting in our new holding tank. It drains the tank much more completely that any of our previous tanks that pulled from the top via a pick up tube. The only real down side is that if you have a failure of any part of the discharge line below the top of the tank it will leak into the boat. A fitting at the top will not do that. So the decision is yours as to whether you are comfortable with this kind of set up. Chuck

Thanks to all respondents. We went with a pick-up tube from top of tank. Avoiding effluent residing in bottom hose day to day and potential of catastrophic failure. As a bonus this set up provided short straight route to pump out.
