Hey gang..... Anybody out there have any experiences with dirty and oxidized mast cleaning. I tried "Boat Soap" and it didn't do a thing. I experimented with soft scrub, it brought the shine back, but still leaves some black soil marks. I'm leaning towards trying a two part cleaner / wax. I would appreciate any thoughts or lessons learned.

Metal Cleaner

John, I am not sure of the age of your boat from your posting. Our boat is in her third year and the mast and boom are showing signs of oxidation and salt type discoloration. Our marina neighbor highly recommended a product called Mr. Douglas. I purhcased some at the Annapolis voat show this past weekend. I used it a bit, here and there, and one of the spots happened to be the boom. I was IMPRESSED. It restored it to it's look. The mast is anodized and I do not yet know how long it will stay sparkling. FOr now, it sparkles and it was not an abundance of effort to get it there. You might be able to find it somewhere, I think a couple of the national marine supplies carry it. I'd guess any metal cleaner will work. I did find a marked difference, however, with the Mr. Douglas over the previous that we had purchased, 3M and Flitz. The price was approx. $15US for a 6-7 oz tube and $34US for a two pound can. Not terribly bad as marina magic potients go! :) If you can't find it, you can email me. Our info is on the Owner's directory. I'll attempt to get some info form the label. good luck, Mike D

Thanks Mike

The mast is a 1983 vintage. If the oxidation were even, I wouldn't care; but it is spotty and looks bad. I am concerned about what cleaner I use, because I've seen some that says "OK for anodized", and some that say "don't use on anodized". When they don't say either, I won't use them.
