If it's Dacron....
For most stains, except rust, my sailmaker told me the best method is to put the sail into a large rubbermaid trash can & fill it with a mild bleach solution. This will remove most stains, mildew, etc. Bleach will not harm Dacron fabric. If you have a lot of rust stains, they recommended taking it to a loft to have it professionally cleaned. They said another way to clean a sail is to lay in out flat (if possible) and use mild detergent (boat soap, for example) and lightly scrub with a brush to remove stains. Scrubbing will wear the fabric a little, so only scrub for stubborn stains. They told me to never use a clothes washing machine or dryer. This will prematurely wear the fabric.Hope this helps!Allens/v DrambuieC-30, Hull #632
