Dipstick

Okay, first world problem for Hunter 356 owners. The cabin steps tilt forward for decent engine access, and I can easily reach the dipstick to pull it out--but I can't see to put it back in without unfastening the steps at the bottom and lifting them out of the way. To make it more difficult, they are too large to slide into the available space in the galley or salon without heavy maneuvering. Is it just me? Is there a trick to doing this so checking the oil is less of a chore?

Not my boat, but good video of opening engine compartment at 7 minutes 10 seconds in this video.
Dipstick is low down in the middle of the starboard side of the engine. Tough to reach without removing cover altogether and impossible to see hole to reinsert.
