I have a Hunter 31 with a 2GMF Engine. Both my engine oil dipstick and my gear oil dipstick each have two (2) level marks; looks like a high and a low. Do I fill to high, low or somewhere in between? Is the engine oil fill different than the gear fill. So far I have asked several people but have gotten conflicting answers. They did not have this engine.

Check oil

by placing dipstick on top of opening. Do not screw in to check. The proper level is between the top and bottom marks. The transmission should be 20/30WT oil. It should say on the transmission plate located at the rear of the engine exactly what to use.

2GMF lubrication

1. top line indicates maximum fill - do not overfill. Diesel's do not like this! 2. Bottom line indicates "time to fill". My engine never gets this low between oil changes when performed at scheduled intervals. 3. The transmission on my 2GMF (95 H29.5) uses same oil as engine -- but check your manual -- not all do.
