my 87 h31 has a 3-piece telescoping pedestal supporting the dining table. it was designed by someone who knew he would never have to use it. there are two hex bolts at the top of the lower two telescoping sections intended to be loosened and tightened in the process of raising and lowering the table. however, despite purchasing two 9/16" wrenches expressly for this purpose, it is impossible to tighten them enough to prevent the table from gradually working its way down onto your knees. furthermore, the process of raising and lowering requires two people and endless patience. has anyone encountered this problem and resolved it?

Mine is different

I have a 1985 H31 and my dinette table support post is one piece tubular metal (aluminum?), just fits into flanges on the floor and the underside of the table. I don't know if they redesigned it from 1985 to 1987. Is it possible that a previous owner, for some reason, installed the three-piece design that you have? Mine is easy to install and remove, no bolts or wrenches, just fits into place so it's easy to convert to a berth.

Bob, it is possible the design has changed.

my boat has the banquet semi-circular seating arrangement and i think yours may be the facing bench seats. i don't think this table design has been customized.
