hi, getting dingy ready for launching. my 10 ft. avon has a bridle set-up. how much line should i purchase for towing it. thanks alan

Hi Alan, I carry our dink on the transom...

step rather than tow. Much safer and less drag on the boat. I do have 50 feet of rope with a mushroom anchor that I use for the painter when I go ashore.Terry

Ask someone on your dock for their advice.Typically 50 feet should do it.Be sure to tie it in a V to two aft cleats.Be sure to use polypropene (yellow) line.It floats, which precludes the line fouling the prop.

If you're going to tow it

in the ocean, adjust it so it's on the face of the second wave behind you, and be sure to put a rubber shock absorber in the tow line somewhere.

Hi Alan, just as a follow-up note...

some ocean going cruisers will advise you to carry the dink on deck, deflated and tied down usually forward of the mast.See link regarding how we carry our dink.Terry
