Dingy Davits on a 35.5

I would like to find an economical solution to dingy stowage. Currently I tow it but not ideal in my mind. I have seen a number of Davit systems where the dingy is raised but my complaint with that is that in rough weather it seems to bounce around a lot and the other major issue is that they extend the boat length by 3-4 feet which would force me into a larger slip. I am envisioning a system that is more commonly seen on power boats where one side of the dingy is hooked to the transom and then the other side raised so it stores vertically on one side. It may be possible to mount the brackets slightly higher on the swim grid and stow it with very little additional length. The dingy is an inflatable with a hard insertable floor and inflatable bottom keel so it is fairly rigid. Has this been done before? Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Don

Don't do the davits. When I cruise mine, I pull the bow of the dinghy right up the sloped transom so that only the rear of the dingy is in the water. It's fast and easy and there is virtually no drag from it.

Weaver Davits

I remember Les Blackwell doing this to his 380 in the photo project forum a couple of years ago. I also did it to our 380 after seeing his layout and photos. It is a easy and stable system to use and fairly easy to install. We also leave our dingy in the up position when at the slip so no more picking it up on the fordeck for storage.

There is dingy storage and

there is dingy storage. What happens during a big storm? I notice that bluewater boats store their dingys on deck. There is probably a reason for this don't you think? Costal crusers are seen with the "dingy humping the stern" and on davits. There is probably a reason for this too. I guess it depends on what you intend to do with the boat (as always).

Thanks for the link and the detailed photo's, It is great to see a step by step procedure. Alan, In the summer we cruise every weekend to some destination and I want to make the dingy stowage easy. We want to hop on the boat Friday at 5:00 PM and go without doing a lot of work. This system would allow for permanent stowage while in my slip without increasing O/A boat length which is also important.

A follow up question for Ahanson H 380 If you are on a beat in rough weather and heeled over is there any chance that the dingy will dip into the water or possibly catch a wave?

Sailing with dingy

Don The bow of the dingy would never touch the water but the stern would lightly drag when heeled. This was easly fixed by shifting the mounting pads on the dingy so the bow is a little farther outboard. The stern light also gets coverd by the dingy in the up position so that needed to be raised higher. I also needed to use a dingy under 9' to make it work
