I am considering adding a Doel-Fin or similar foil to the outboard for my dink to improve ny ability to plane with light loads, ie with one person on board. I have a 9ft inflatable with a 5hp outboard and I am wondering if these devices work as claimed. Any comments pro or con would be appreciated. I realize with this setup that planing with moderate to full loads is not realistic or necessarily desirable. Thank you. Paul Bednarzyk H380 Knot Again

Paul: I have a 18hp engine on our 10' rib. It was very difficult to get and keep the nose down until we added the doel fin. It does help to plane but I do not think that they turn as well at high speed. This is probably not going to be a problem with 5hp. Another thing to consider is an extension for the motor handle. This will allow you to sit farther forward which also helps. Steve Dion s/v Heather Marie

Outboard Fin

Paul, Added one to my 8hp Nissan. It not only planes faster and easier, you can hold a plane at a lower rpm, conserving fuel. Bob
