Dinghy Storage on Hunter 420

I have recently purchased a Hunter Passage 420 which is currently located in the Chesapeake. It came with a Quicksilver 330 (10ft.) dinghy and 8 hp. Mercury outboard. Total weight of dinghy and motor is approx. 175 lbs. I am trying to figure out how to store the dinghy when we are not using it. I would like to get it out of the water and have looked at St. Croix removable davits as well as the Dinghy Tow which lifts the rear of the dinghy and motor out of the water but leaves the bow in the water. I am wondering if any Hunter 420 or 450 owners have solved the problem of dinghy storage during passages? If so, I would very much like to have your input.

I live on a 450. and use the boom to bring it on board, but I think the center cockpit is of value for that.I just added another block on the end .

Kato Marine in Annapolis

Contact Kato. They make the best davits. We have them on our P42 and they also have done P45. I havenot seen any on a P420 yet but call them. We are very satisfied with the custom job they did for us.

Weaver system

If you are looking for an easy storage system for the dink--(Motor on the rail) look at the Weaver system. It is not recommended for sailboats under sail but it is slick for storing on a slip or for motoring.

Kato

We have also been looking at davits, and concur with the Kato choice. They have pictures of installation on a P42, and understand the boat. Note that reinforcement of the stern rail is very important as the rail section on the P42 is freestanding

Eric... is your boat at Norton's Yacht Sales in Deltaville? If so, I too, have a new 420 there. I decided to use Ocean Marine Systems davits... am getting ready to install them in the next week or two... received them last month from Ocean Marine Systems in Richmond, British Columbia,Canada. (www.vru.com/ocean/) These are rail mounted... can be configured specifically for H420; and manufacturer assures that they are quite strong enough to support (our) dingy/motor combination.... however, I intend to further brace them with struts (ss rods or ss pipe) to either, (each side of) the arch ...or to the spinnaker sheet block pad eyes. (US$1568.00 delivered)

Same Question

I have the exact dinghy/motor and a 2001 420 as well. I am curious as to what you decided. Would you mind sharing your decision, I am struggling with the indecision on what is the best solution.
