Just a general interest post. My friend of the 26' power boat with the dog has a small dinghy that was in serious need of repair. Keel was breached in at least 3 places, gouges in the glass on the hull. Looking pretty rough.

He did some really heavy duty welding for me on my Sailboat Trailer. I volunteered to fix his dinghy.

The dinghy had been fixed in the past waith all manner of stuff. Silicone, bondo, to polyester and fiberglass woven roving. It was a mess. I filled the keel hollows with thickened epoxy and then over layed all edges and keel with 6" fiberglass tape. Let that cure, faired out the edges and then layed on a layer of 6oz fiberglass over all. Then on more layer of 3" tape over the keel.

Wow, did that ever stiffen this little boat up.

Unfortunatley, I did not start taking pics at the start. I got a few today of the boat in the process of being painted with EasyPoxy by Petit. WOW, what nice paint. I normally hate painting. This was no exception. But this paint went on like a dream.

It is designed to seal fiberglass and is useable on both topsides and bottoms too.

Wow, very nice job.

That hull looks familiar. I grew up with boats just like that. Drop a mast in the bow tube, hang a rudder on the stern, and go sailing.

They also rowed very well.

Yep, It has a bow tube for a mast and gudgeions for a rudder, he needs a rudder and a mast and sail.

He paid $200 for it many years ago in Calif. I wish I could find one like it around here in the mid west.

Every one wants $800+ for any sort of light weight dinghy now days.

Tom, check craigslist in Chicago. With the economy the way it is, many people that had stardocks upgraded to a slip and no longer need a dinghy. I see them regularly for $200.

Tom,
Check for boats call Sabot . Most are found in So. Cal. They are still very popular. Many in that area use them as a dinghy.

From Craigs List, I picked up an El Toro, 8' sailing pram last month. It came with mast, sail, all the running rigging, rudder. paddle and dagger board for $200. All it needed was some sanding and fresh paint and varnish. I made a plug for the dagger board trunk, so it doesn't ship water when towing.
