Dinghy on Deck

I am sort of new at this and want to get some suggestions (never having had a dinghy before, to contend with). I have an 8ft minto sailing dinghy now in the water next to my Coronado 25. I would like to get the dinghy on deck for storage (preferrably bottom side up) without killing my gelcoat on the main boat. I do have an extra halyard on the forward side of the mast, but no davits or blocks to get the dinghy out of the water, clear of the gunwales. Any suggestions as to an easy way to get the dinghy out of the water and on deck without scratching the heck out of the main deck? I can not use the jib under way with the dinghy on the deck, so I want to merely store the dinghy on deck when the boat is at the dock. I will splash the dinghy and tow it when sailing on a trip or leave it afloat, at the dock when I am daysailing. Steve

Jib Halyard

Steve, We currently have an inflatable zodiac for our Hunter 335. We store it on deck for long passages or when crossing significant bodies of water like Juan de Fuca Strait. Our method of hauling it out is to attach the jib halyard to a towing bridle on the bow of the dinghy. I haul the halyard up using a winch until the stern is clear of the lifelines. My wife fends the dinghy off the hull while we're hauling up and then guides the dinghy into position on the foredeck after it's clear of the lifelines. I then gradually ease the halyard while she further guides it into position on deck. I would think you could do the same with a hard dinghy but might want to use a couple of throw cushions in strategic places to protect the deck. Hope this helps. Gary Wyngarden S/V Shibumi H335

spinaker pole

If you have a spinaker pole or a downwind pole you could rig with that to lift.

Spinaker halyard

I use the spinaker halyard to bring it up, since the jib halyard is in use. Ozana
