We have just purchased the 380 2001 where the rail seats go straight back. We now have a problem on where to put the dingy motor mount to hold the outboard. We would appreciate any suggestions on how we can set this up. Unlike the 340 we had the seat is so straight back, there is no room on the inner area of the the walk through. That is where we had the mount on the 340.

We have an Edson motor mount on our 376

We have the Edson mount attached on the starboard near the aft opening. Works great. RREgge S/V Allie Kat

Mount no problem

We have a 1999 H380 and put a West plastic motor mount next to the stern seat and it works well. See picture. Really easy to put motor on and off and get to and from dinghy. Did not have to do any mods at all.

Motor Size?

John, What size motor do you have? We have a 9.9 hp Mercury and I'm concerned that the West Marine Motor Mount won't handle that large an engine. Thanks, Sue, for asking the question as it is one I've been struggling with as well. Fair winds, Steve S/V Options H380

3.3 Merc

Yes, we only have a 3.3 Merc that is not even 30#. And the West Marine motor mount is pretty cheezy and I wouldn't use it with a heavier motor than what we have. So if you had a heavier motor, a better wood mount would make sense. As far as a heavier outboard, I have seen bigger mounted with better mounts. Also, we have had some pretty hefty people in our stern seats and it was not a problem. ALthough I held my breath at the time. Keep checking the bolts. It is so darn convienient to put the motor there is would be a shame not to be able to. Good luck with your choice.

Danger Will Robinson!

Always wanted to say that. As mentioned we have the Edson motor mount (highly recomend it over a wooden one) however if you have the 9.9hp merc 4 stroke there are two major issues. We tried with our 9.9 and found two major problems 1. The attachment screwa on the 9.9 are too far apart for the edson bracket. 2. The weight on the 9.9 (117 +/- lbs) is too great for the rail. Even without someone in the nearby seat the entire stern rail seemed very unstable. We removed our 9.9 immediatly and bought a 3.3 (should have bought a 5hp) Now we have an extra 9.9 RREgge S/V Allie Kat
