Trying to be environmentally correct I'm considering a 4 stroke motor, but 8 - 10 hp weighs 85 - 125 pounds. The problem is that permanently installed stern lifts look out of place on a center cockpit boat (we take delivery of a new 45CC next month) Any collapsable or stowable lifts worth considering? Anyone using the boom with block and tackle? Has anyone considered fabricating a detachable lift to be used off the side of the cockpit steel arch? Thought of davits for hoisting dinghy (and motor separately), but they really chop up the lines of a center cockpit.....

Garhauer

You should check out Garhauer. They make motor lifts and they only require a permanent mounting bracket. The lift comes apart when not needed. Very well made and relatively inexpensive.

Forespar Motor Mate

We use a Forespar Motor Mate Lift. It is easily mounted and removed for stowage. It conveniently folds to store in its bag. It uses a rail mount and is rated for up to 100 Pounds. A block and tackle gives you adequate purchase to easily raise and lower the weight. We also use it to raise supplies into the boat when at anchor. It is a quality item and it really looks good when we leave it on at the anchorage. They retail for around $350.

Ocean Marine Systems

I have Nissan 9.8 4 Stroke, 87 lbs and have been searching for the correct motor lift. The problem I have encountered is the height. The Nova lift and the Garhauer both look great but do not work for the height, I would still have to lift the motor off the rail mount. The Ocean Marine Sytem Cargo lift seems to be the answer for me all though mounting is still an issue due to my stern seats on my 2005 Hunter 44 AC. I have attached the link, you may want to take a look. I believe it is sold for a pricy $595.00. Bob SV Kathryn 2, Stamford, Ct

Bob, Height?

Bob, I don't get what you mean by the height. Are you talking abou the angle of pull from the arm to the rail? The lift needs to be far enough away from where the motor sits so that the arm can swivel over and have a direct angle of pull over the motor. You pick it up and then swivell it out. If the lift is installed right next to the motor then you would have to lift it to get it out to the end of the arm. I learned this through trial and error.

A second on Garhauer

I've used the Gerhauer dingy motor lift for the last several years -- VERY good -- built strong enough to lift your average V8 engine block -- if your pulpit could take it.. Very good value, very good SS hardware, excellent mechanical advantage.
