Tim, I've never seen it done. We briefly has Hallberg Rasey 35 with davits and a Montgomery 10 dinghy. It looked good but that boat was a lot bigger than a Vega. A dinghy is a challenge for Vegas. We had Sportyak that we carried on Lyric but it was very
ungainly. For short trips we towed a 9'6" bombard with inflatable floor for longer trips we deflated and carried on the cabin top. We could inflate it on the foredeck. The Bombard fell apart after a few years. It was a PVC boat and PVC boat transoms are
electronically welded to the tubes. Very difficult to glue them back together. As an aside, I guy knew was sailing an Islander 36 from San Francisco to Santa Cruz while towing his Zodiac. They hit a shipping container and within 10 seconds were in the Zodiac. Very cold water where you sail. Do you have life raft? If not, I'd tow the dingy
everywhere and maybe carry some kind of survival pack in it.

Has anyone installed dinghy davits on their Vega or has seen one with davits? Does it look awkward and oversized for the boat? I have a 7 foot inflatable that I keep rolled up on deck because its too troublesome to unpack and repack at the end of each weekend
sail. Having the dinghy on davits sure would make it easy.

Tim, I had friends that cruised on an old wooden yawl. They were on a budget and had an Avon Redcrest as a dinghy. Mike, the captain had modified it so that he could inflate it from a non attached CO2 tank. We had a Switlik Lifepod on Lyric as part of the
equipment included with the boat when we sold her. I've since purchased a 22 foot sportfisher and would love to have a decent raft but until I do I have a couple of surplus 1 man military rafts that I've been able to modify to inflate from paint ball CO2 tanks.
You might want to consider doing something similar if you're not able to tow. If you need the dinghy as a life raft you probably won't have time to pump. A caveat is CO2 comes out of the tank very cold so needs to be released kind of slowly. Nitrogen is also
used on commercial rafts for inflation as it comes out much warmer. I don't know if the nitrogen tanks used in paintball use the same kind of valves. The CO2 tanks don't typically have a valve that would work for inflation but there are aftermarket valves
that can be closed and opened with a screw valve. IMHO it might be worthwhile considering. Walt

Thanks for the reply. To answer the question, no I do not have a life raft. I would like one but am wanting my airfloor dinghy to be used as a life raft in the meantime till I can
find a reasonably priced liferaft. The foredeck already feels so cluttered and inflating and deflating the dinghy in tight awkward space is a chore. I do tow the dinghy on occasion when I plan an overnight trip, but for day trips the dinghy debacle adds to
the un-fun time. Davits make things look so easy on larger boats, but on a 27ft boat it might be unrealistic.
