I am looking at options for my dinghy and 25hp outboard. I have a C310 that came with dinghy davits which I removed. I currently tow our dinghy(115lbs) with the outboard on it(106lbs). The boat pulls it very well but I am thinking about hanging. Has anyone carried this kind of weight on their davits? The davits are rated for it but I am more concerned about the pushpit. Another option would be to tow the dinghy and use just an engine hoist and stow the motor on the rail. A bit of weight for the rail but we have had 200lbs+ men sitting in the pushpit seats. Just wondering what others have done. Thanks

Jeff, I hang a 10 ft rib, (165 lb), and 15 hp motor, (80 lb) from my Kato davits and have done so without a problem. I took the davits to a stainless shop and had them reinforced prior to use. I also added guy wires from the rail to the deck. It's been five years since I installed this system. I never take the engine off the dingy, even when the winds are 30 plus knots. I sail mostly in the Chesapeake, but I might modify this approach if I head off shore. My boat is 46 ft LOA and displaces 30,000 lb. Contact me at sjhailey@aol.com if you would like to chat. St Croix Davits I'm planning on installing this spring. I'll be adding reinforcing struts from the rail to the back stoop to make it rigid enough. I'm only supporting 130 Lbs. and I worry more about the lateral forces. When your heeling and the boat is bouncing in the waves it requires a lot of lateral support to keep the dinghy from moving side to side. I'm still in the process of designing my lateral supports. I would be concerned about that kind of weight in davits no matter what the boat. If it were me I'd get a motor hoist and keep it on the rail and tow the dinghy or get a smaller outboard and lighter dinghy! I have a rib that only weighs 90 LBS. still heavier than I would like but not bad. That 25 is a huge motor and dinghy package for the stern of a 310... The 310 is a small boat for that much weight on the stern and the rail should have no problem supporting a 106lb engine. 25hp is a big motor for a sailboat dinghy, but it is how I get my speed fix and retrieve the crab pots. My dinghy is a 10' Xtreme Cat. Pontoon style bottom is extremely low resistence towing and with the 25 two stroke, carries my wife and I 33mph. Please provide any other thoughts you might have.
