Just buying an 84 oday 28, but just realized that it has matching dimples in the hull right under the rear shrouds. Its on the hard so i am wondering if this deformity will go away once she is in the water and if not is it easy to fix... Thanks thom

They are on starboard and port sides about a foot above the water line. On the inside there is a round access panel, where the aft shroud is attached to the hull ....side

Sounds like upper and/or lower shrouds are, or have been way too tight. Such dimples will USUALLY return to normal when tension is corrected and boat supported properly or in water. However, hull deformations allowed to remain for an extended period will often cause the deformation to "take a set." Best to correct the tension right now, and see what you have after w while.

It can certainly be repaired. Area is accessible from inside as well as out, I believe, in that area. Those O'day 28s are great boats. Might want to loosen shrouds to normal, or less, tension, and give it a few weeks. You can measure depth of dimple by placing a straight-edge over it and measuring the chord (depth) and repeat in a couple weeks to see if you are gaining.

Tightening the forestay and backstay should slightly press the hull out at the sides. Don't know if that would help you. You could loosen the shrouds and slightly tighten the stays...

Thanks,
