Hello all, I'm thinking of getting a folding prop however I need to determine what type of shaft I have. I have not measured it yet but I have to determine whether its SAE of metric. I think the boat was built in France but I'm not positive... anyone know how I can determine the exact type/measure without taking the propeller off ? Thanks Gaute

Call Beneteau

Gaute the 361s were made in Marion South Carolina. Sorry but I can't remember the dimensions on the shaft but call Beneteau they'll know. BTW not sure which prop you're going to go with but I have the Autoprop and love it. I know you race so a model that fully folds is probably a better bet. Max props are very popular. Whichever you buy expect there may be a difference in the way she prop walks and handles due to the difference in blade angle, especially in reverse. Mike

The shaft

on my '94 Bene OC400 is a 30mm. Yours probably is too. The shaft is visible aft of the engine; measure it with a caliper. I have a MaxProp and love it. I can do 7 kts @ 2000 RPM with my Perkins 50 and the reverse is excellent; mimimal prop walk, and backs up like a tug. Good stopping power, too. I can enter my slip just a little hot (to counter a crosswind) give it a shot of reverse and it STOPS!

looking at flexofold, kiwiprop and gori

I'll try both Beneteau and see if I can get a nice pair of calipers and together I should be on the safe side. I'm really having a hard time with the prop selection, Gori is cheaper for 2 blade at $800 or so but I heard some have lost theirs. Kiwi prop is 3 blade and still cheap at $1300 but has other features I'm not sure I like and the Flexofold folds complete with the 2 blade and is reasonable (all quotes are off the top of my head, have a complete list somewhere). I'm leaning towards Gori or Flexofold as we do more sailing than motoring but that might change.... every manufacturer seem to have stats that prove their better so that makes it even harder :/ Two blades are more economical but I have heard they create vibrations passing thru the middle of the boat. Any other personal experiences with this is appreciated but I think the Maxprop and Autoprop are out of my pricerange.
