Dimensions of stern step verticle portion

I am purchasing a Hunter Passage 42 and want to put its name (vinyl letters) in the vertical portion of the lower step (where the ladder hinges). I am hoping someone will be able to provide the dimensions... I would go measure, but the boat is 1000 miles away in Mexico!

I have a 436--it is probably the same. What do you mean by the vertical section of the lower step? The step well is 23" wide x 14" high.

Based on your measurements, it looks like your stern step may be a bit different. On the Passage 42 the steps cover most of the boat's stern width. The dimension I am looking for is the lower part where the stern ladder hinges. I want to put the boat's name there is vinyl letters.
