Peggie, Another question. Could compare and contrast the the Raritan PHII and the Cricket? I'm trying to decide which one to go with. Thanks again! -Tom

From a Cricket owner.

There are some issues that you need to ponder if considering a Cricket. I bought that model(marine size) because of the simple and efficient pump design with low water usage. In retrospect I might have been better served with the PH-II. It mainly has to do with space, both depth and width. The Cricket has a side-mounted handle with an extension. It angles out to the right requiring some room you may not have. It is slightly flexible so that on my boat, even with the head mounted left of center, your hand still rubs on the bulkhead while pumping. The next issue is the base mounting, two lag bolts in front, one in center rear but slotted so that you can slide it back. I had to build an oak platform to extend forward of the original shelf. It fit on the shelf except that the input connection sticks straight out the back and crimped the hose. The outlet is also back there but is an elbow and can be adjusted for direction. Go to the Raritan website and get the footprint template. Then you will need at least two inches behind that rear bolt mounting hole. Finally the wet/dry valve is very inconvenient, lower left and at the back and hardly visible. I think that I read there may be an improvement there. On the upside, it really does work well. :)

Ed, Raritan makes an "extension pole"

for the Cricket dry/flush lever that allows it to be operated from a sitting or standing position. It's a special order option...IMO, it should be shipped as standard equipment with every toilet.

I upgraded to the Cricket last year and agree will Ed's comments. But do get the dry/wet extension handle unless you want to stick you head in the head to change the position. And they do work well. Bryce S/V Spellbinder H410

From what?

What head would you have to consider the Cricket an upgrade?

Several...

Because it's a full sized toilet that fits in the same space as a compact, the Cricket is an upgrade from any "compact" toilet. Insofar as quality is concerned it's an upgrade from the Jabsco manual and the Headmate. Because it has a diaphragm pump (no moving parts to wear), it COULD be considered an "upgrade" from ANY piston/cylinder toilet...at least any under $500.

Difference between Cricket and PH II

Cricket has a diaphragm pump under the bowl. PH II has a piston/cylinder pump beside the bowl.
