Can anyone help? My engine will not even hand crank forward. I have to hand crank it in reverse approx 90 degrees,then forward the same amt. After repeating this aprox 10 times I can hear what sounds like water burping through the engine. Once I do this the engine will then start. After stopping the engine I then hear fluid draining back into the engine from what sounds like the muffler from the exhaust hose. I am baffled? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

You could also have a failed siphon break. It sounds like you are hydro-locking your engine and this is definitely not good.
If you are not very comfortable with this type of trouble shooting you may want to invest in a good diesel mechanic before you bust a connecting rod or worse. Water is not compressible like air. Oh and change your oil once you've fixed it. Change it many times to make sure no water has passed into the oil pan and the oil is clear and not milky.
