Diesel tank

If anyone has installed new diesel tank/s then could you give me some
idea as to how you have achieved this. I have a notion to put two
seven gallon tanks in the stbd locker. Linked together one would fill
the other via hand pump. Any thoughts on whether it would work. Vega
is series one and has currently a 10 gallon tank from Vetus that has
always leaked and its profile takes up far too much room.

Journeyman has an 11 gallon poly fuel tank at the forward end of each
cockpit locker, on glassed stringers. Each tank has a Racor filter mounted
on the fwd bulkhead. The manifold or valving is in the stbd locker, easily
reached. The tanks fill separately via deck fills on each side. I just
switch tanks when I think I'm getting low on one. The advantage is that the
two fuel tanks are pretty much entirely separate, so that for example if I
was to clog a Racor on one side I could easily switch. The engine is a
Westerbeke 10b diesel.

Here\'s my 2cts worth: Drivfjäder (1033) has a VETUS PET 35 liter tank on
glassed mounts + metal strips. This (gravity-)feeds the diesel through a
Volvo first/coarse filter + water separator (+ valve) all in the S.B.
locker. The tank & the water sep. are both made of clear material and
inspection (i.e. level, contamination, water, flow) is very easy.

For the record, our engine is a Volvo MD2010 10 hp 2 cyl diesel +
intercooler. The battery is currently on the forward end in the bilge but
I\'m think of adding a second one in the p.s. locker using a 1-2-both switch.

In the P.S. locker we have the cooling water inlet + seaweed filter within
very easy reach (as we sail mainly in Dutch inland waters we need to inspect
this very regularly)

Best regards and happy sailing in 2002!
