I just purchased a 1984 h31. The diesel fill cap is on the starboard side rear with the vent on the stern. I just found a fill hole under the starboard rear seat right next to the vent hose. It has a blue cap. What is it too? I have not got my trained monkey with me to send down into the utility area to follow the hose. It sits right above the fuel tank. Is it the fresh water fill? Is it a 2nd Fuel line?

Send the monkey!!,,,this is NOT a mistake you want to make! If you can reach the PO I would ask about it, if not I would track it to its source.

Definitely don't put anything but the monkey down

that line until you know for SURE what it goes to. On my '87H31, the fresh water fill is under a flip-up wooden panel in the center of the top of the transom. Climb down into the starboard locker (you'll fit - I'm 6'4, 230# and I can get in there) and trace out all the hoses, wires, etc. Bring a new element for the Racor fuel filter that is (hopefully) in that locker - you'll want to replace that as part of your 'baseline' maintenance. Check the fuel tank while you're down there - if it's the original plastic one and you can't find an inspection port (that would have been cut by a PO, because Hunter didn't think fuel tanks needed one back then) then you'll probably want to pull the tank someday, cut a port and use it to clean out the sludge. You've got a great boat, have fun! Cheers, Bob s/v X SAIL R 8

That fill is for the fresh water tank believe it or not. Waste is up toward the bow. There should be two vents near the water fill, fuel vent and water vent. Happy sailing.

mine

Mine is a 1984 as well. The filler in the starboard laz is rear fresh water tank. I will be moving mine this spring to be under the wooden cover for the emerg tiller as it is a huge pain in the backside to move stuff around to get to the filler. Not to mention if you over fill the water is then sitting in the laz. Can't tell you how many times I've been filling and the wind blew the lid down on my head. Did you get the fin or shoal keel? BTW I love our 84 31 Dave

water water water

The filler under the step aft of the helm seat is a water fill. If you let the hose run for a period of time you will see water exiting from the vent to the starboard of the center line on the stern. I suggest that you change the o-ring on your fuel filler cap. This will help prevent water from getting into your fuel.

Thanks All

Great Ideas. I think as part of my work up refit I will move the fresh water fill next to the emergency tiller port. Does anyone have a trained monkie. Mine got sea sick and ran away. Ha Ha.
