Universal Model 18 inboard diesel. Had fuel filter changed had difficulty with air in fuel lines. All lines replaced and bled. Before filter and lines diesel started quickly (2 seconds) now I must crank 10 to 15 seconds with throttle wide open to start. Any suggestions to shorten and improve start?

Diesel slow to start

When this sort of thing has happened to me it usually was one of two things: 1) Air traped in the system (filter was most likely spot). After a couple of hours of running this problem will usually solve itself. 2) Cracked fuel line or fitting allowing air to be 'sucked' into the pump. This one will not solve itself but can be checked by drying everything off and then judiciously (sp?) placing paper towel down to detect fuel weeps. A favorite spot for leaks to develop if you have bled your system is at the washers on the banjo fittings to the injectors. If this is turns out to be the problem site it can usually be fixed by enealing the gaskets so they are softened and can be reseated.

Air Leak?

Possibly a line or gasket isn't comletely seated and is allowing air into the system and causing you to lose prime?
