I am going to repower my Atomic 4 with a new diesel engine. HELP! Does the Yanmar fit right in? Any other suggestions? Any place to get a rebuilt?

Re-powering

Saw a zero-hour rebuild for sail in Newport Nautical, Newport, RI this weekend. Don't know make/model. Price: $2995.00 negotiable. Newport Nautical Supply 186 Admiral Kalbfus Rd, Newport, RI 02840 Phone: (401) 847-3933 Lots of work involved in re-powering, so do some serious research and better get ready to open up that wallet. Why?

George - Why the repower? If the engine is useable or rebuildable I'd continue to use it. See the link below for a good article on the mertis of A4 V Diesel. If not I'd try to get a zero hour rebuilt and drop it in. Repower projects are very expensive. The engine itself will set you back betweeen 3 and 7 thousand dollars and the cost of changing over the ancillaries can be killer. If you are going to go with a diesel I would not do the Yanmar trip. I'd go with Westerbeke because they make engines that are truly drop in. With the Yanmar you will have to have new mounts at a minimum, adding to the cost. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

George, If you do repower...

and you want to sell the atomic 4, please email me at k2tavares@yahoo.com. I know a couple of people that have the atomic 4 in their boats and they probably would be interested in picking up a used A4 for parts etc. We live in SE Mass, so the ride is not out of the question if the price is right. hope this helps.
