I'm looking for any best practices or lessons learned from those of you who have repowered a sailboat that had the old Volvo MD2. I have a '67 Soverel 28 that I'm repowering. The Volvo utilized the same narrow engine mount to engine mount centerline width of the Atomic Four or about 11.5". I have the outward area available to accomodate today's 14.5" Yanmar(2gm20/f) or some of the Kubota configuration mounts(betamarine or phasor) but given this dimension and the fact that my clear distance across the bilge from mounting angle to mounting angle is only 9.5" I'm curious as to how you have tackled the likely bell housing width conflict I'll have.Any sugesstions will be appreciated.

Try Hansen Marine who can sell you a Universal

deisel with a amchined plate to match up to your existing MS transmision. No direct personal knowledge but that's what my research showed when I thought about replacing my MD2 two years ago. Want to sell me your injectors? I'd like top keep a rebuilt set as spares. Al

Something to think about

I'm not sure how much room you have and which side of the engine can be most easily accessed, but you may want to consider the accessability of the filters, injectors, primer, starter that will need to accessed in the future to help you decide which engine.

parting out injectors

I agree, keeping spares on hand is advantageous. I do have my MD2(complete w/Trans)for sale on the boat trader(traderonline). I may be interested in parting it out if it doesn't sell reasonably soon. My email address is berteshogs@aol.com if you want to check back with me.
