Peggy or anyone, With your help we have worked on most every isssue that could cause odors on our Hunter 28.5 (1985). We have spent a year and much $$ working on this boat . The cabin sole and cushions are new. We replaced most all sanation and exhost hoses. We powered washed the bildge under the hull liner many times and steam cleaned the liner carpet. We still have a strange odor that I now think is from the diesel. We discovered that the molded in fuel tank (bad design) had a crack when we filled it up completely for the first time. We bought a new tank and had it installed in the lazarette with all new hoses (easier than digging out the old tank). We noticed that our odor increases when the boat is closed up and just after running the diesel. I have cleaned the engine and we did find and fixed one small leak. We are thinking of installing a blower to vent fumes from the engine compartment to outside. We have one solar vent for the cabin and plan to install a second. The odor does not exactly smell like fuel but I still think it is the diesel. We have attacked every other possible source! Do you think it could be diesel related. The odor seems to stick to things like plastic bags left in the cabin and it has now affected our new cushions. We have sunk too much money in this boat and cannot bail out. I am thinking that cleaning the engine, venting the compartment, and the cabin might eventually get rid of the odor that has permeated things. I am very frustrated but refuse to give up. Jeff
