I am not familiar with Brooklyn but in case you can't connect with anyone in the boating industry, you might consider truck or heavy equipment mechanics who work on diesel engines, they are everywhere.
Not sure about that particular motor, but most boat diesels are tractor motors. Mine is often used in backhoes or end lifters. Find out who services construction stuff at the airport and call a mech from there. B
and get a referal for a marine diesel mechanic. Trucks or heavy equipment don't float. Marine diesels are designed to operate differently than their tractor brothers. They operate in a much different environment and are subjected to different stresses. Example, what tractor engine has a sacrificial anode in its cooling system or is salt water cooled? A marine trained technician can best advise you about the overall condition of the engine.
