When I turn they starter key on my Cat30 to pre-heat the glow points (M25XP engine) I hear an intermittent ticking noise (as if a relay or so switches on and off). Can't remember ever having heard that with other diesel engines, could someone tell me if this is something to worry about? Engine runs like a dream.

Thanks

thanks - I feel reassured now - assuming that is what the fuel pump is supposed to do....:)

Yup, it's supposed to do that

We also have an '88 Catalina 30 w/ M25XP engine. The ticking is the perfectly-normal sound of the electric fuel pump. The tick .... tick ..... tick .... is a good thing. If you open the bleed valve (the small knob on the stbd side of the engine) with the key on, but the engine not running, you'll hear ticktickticktick as the pump runs faster pushing fuel along the bypass line.
