This one:

I left R. E. Mayo well after the sun was up and ran under power just down to the Neuse River where I set the sails. Great ride. I was going faster most of the time than I can run under power and up to a knot faster for minutes at a time. It would have been a cold, hard, beat going the other way but that 6 - 7 knots subtracted from the wind speed helped a lot with the wind chill.

I rolled up the jib and furled the main at the marker off the entrance to Adams Creek and then unrolled the jib and sailed under it alone well up the creek to the beginning of the land cut. Four and a half hours of great sailing.

A nice run down to my usual anchorage just above Beaufort. It's tempting to spend a day here but it looks like I have a shot to get clear to Georgetown, SC before the weather changes so I'm going to go for it. I plan to have the engine work I didn't do in Solomons done there by the marina that is a Yanmar dealer so will spend some time there.

Back to being a powerboater tomorrow morning.

It was said, "I have a shot to get clear
to Georgetown, SC".

Then you are going outside? Winds look good for it:

Should you decide to have engine work done by good diesel mechanic before Georgetown, SC, consider:

http://www.jimmysmarine.com/

Jimmy is near your age bracket and does most
of his personal work on boats along the coast
near here. He does not have a marina, rather
takes his truck and assistant Chad to location.

I don't know about other mechanics but I know
Jimmy Sasser goes several times a year to
training seminars. He took Chad with him for
a week at one seminar just a couple of weeks
ago.

And, since he is older he is familiar with older
diesels and their idiosyncrasies. He is old but
uptodate.

Just a though since you will pass by him...

And have you heard, with all taxes going up,
they have installed a toll booth at the state line
to collect boat transit fees? Watch for the
white boat with red and blue stripes.

And you are anchored not far from Town
Creek Marina in Beaufort, North Carolina.

First they are Yanmar dealers.

Second, I can recommend their service.

Third, Steve the service manager, grew
up sailing in on the North Shore of Long
Island and his father probably knew the
Atkins.

Fouth, they have fuel dock.

Then you could go to the Maritime Museum, yes?

Maybe buy an appropriate jacket to sail down with?

Second, I can recommend their service.
My mechanic in Solomons thought it best to get closer to full 250 hours specified in the manual before having the head re-torqued and the valves adjusted.

I thought hard about stopping in Beaufort but this is such perfect weather for getting through these stretches where there are long distances between anchorages that I decided I need to get south. I want to be at least to Georgetown when the weather turns.

I'll keep them in mind if I need anything on the return north. I plan to spend some time in Beaufort then.

We left RE Mayo this morning, 11/29. Same good run to Adams Creek. Like Stanley and Livingston, someday we'll meet up.
PS We got under the Wilkerson Bridge heeling the boat 6 degrees. I can't say enough about our group, they're tops.

Both of you guys need to be aware of this:

http://cruisersnet.net/two-early-no...lotte-inlet-problem-stretch-statute-mile-330/

And watch for the channel markers sitting on top of a shoal.

The standard clearance for bridges is 65 so if you needed
heel on the 64 foot clearance of Wilkerson, you will need to
tilt on most bridges.

If you have crew, consider going outside to avoid the problem.

Go direct from Beaufort, NC to Georgetown, SC. Be waiting
for Roger at the dock. No bridges involved coming into Wayah
Bay from Ocean to docks.

Also a restaurant worthy of checking out in Georgetown:

http://www.riverroomgeorgetown.com/

Probably to pricey for Roger, but it has its own style. Owner
keeps his huge trawler docked in front of the place on the Riverwalk.
