Hunter 140 From Home
New sailer here...

Well, not yet. I had an *incident*.

I have a hunter 140 that needs a new mast (its bent), and maybe a new roller furling jib.

Google isn't helping me find a hunter dealer in DFW and the hunter website allowed me to request the info, but didn't give it to me.

So basically I'm looking for a place in DFW, hopefully around Plano or Lake Lewisville, to drop the boat off, let them order parts and check it over.

Thanks in advance.

THe old Hunter dealer network is a thing of the past so you may not be able to find anyone to specifically help you but lets start. Firs a photo of the mast in question and is there a mast mfg. sticker on that mast. What year is the boat? What is the nearest large city to you so I can get a better feel for where you are. You may want to send me a private email thru this forum email with name, phone. I am a retired dealer who sold the most of the 140, introduced it and in some ways taught Hunter how to repair.

As a 170 owner in the area, I recommend you take a different approach. Take a look at Craigslist, Sailing Texas or other sites and find someone selling a 140 that has hull problems. You may also consider a Boat Wanted ad to get the part you need. Depending on the age of the boat, a new mast could be more than the boat's value.

If you get a mast and need a new sail, best place is this site, i bought a production main and jib at very reasonable prices.

La Vida Starships in Lewisville was our local Hunter dealer. They might still be of some assistance.

1. Its a 2005 hunter 140
2. There is no sticker on the mast
3. I'm in Dallas/Plano Texas
4. I'll post pics soon.
5. Sent you PM Dave.

I talked to the nearest hunter dealer in Kemah Texas who pointed me to West Marine, who pointed me to Brink Boat Repair in Dallas who pointed me to Richard at La Vida Starships in Lewisville. I'll give Richard a call tomorrow.

I suspect I'll be ordering a mast complete and a roller furling Jib from this site. I'm not seeing a 140 for sail anywhere close that's cheaper than the cost of those two parts.

sent you a private message this morning. Cell phone out since the fourth thanks to Verizon who switched my phone in error to a pre paid account which was on a business account that was current in payments plus my plan has unlimited minutes and text not to mention other things included. Go figure. Sent you my home phone number. may I call this afternoon. Not sure but La Vida Starships is a good reputable dealer or use to be with the Old Hunter as I recall.

TXJIM you may want to also keep my contact info. as I was involved with the design of your 170 in my heyday.

spoke to fellow tonight and advised mast is a Dwyer which is bent beyond repair along with the furling sail. THe sail would cost more to repair than a new replacement. He will order from SBO. He also may have a crack in the forestay chainplate area and will send me a photo so I can adviser on repair.
