Determining engine age

From the ericson owners association website: In 1986 the M-25 was replaced by the Model M-25XP, a 57 cu in, 23 hp, 3 cylinder, based on the Kubota D-950 block and fitted with a Hurth HBW-50 marine transmission. It was built from 1986 to 1999. Approximately 3,100 were sold.
How many engine hours do you have? Is there any indication your C30 was repowered?

It's a 1983 C30 and the engine only has 800 hours. The boat is new to us, just closed this weekend. I was mainly wondering if the age could be determined from the serial number because one of the questions when applying for insurance was "what year was the engine produced".
Figure the engine was produced the same year or one year earlier. Nice deal with low engine hours. Have fun with your new boat. Congratulations and welcome.

the serial number I found, or at least I thought it was the serial number, is all numbers, no alpha. I'll take another look tomorrow.
