I am looking to find a more detailed plans for my 31 ft Irwin Citation. I have the floor plan but I am looking for more details. I want to be able to follow wiring and plumbing throughout out my sailboat. Any ideas, links, address or phone numbers would be appreciated. My father and I are looking to have this available. Her name is "Innessfree", and she was purchased earlier this year. I'd love to be able to have an owner's manual for her as well. Any help would be appreciated.

Citation 31information

Hi Ken, It sounds like you have some origional information on the Citation 31, We would sure appreciate it if you could pass this information along, It would be much appreciated. Gene Gammon has a website that is dedicated to Irwin Yachts, and is trying to find any old existing information still in print to add to his website, for all to access. His site can be found at http://www.irwinyachts.com/ If you would send copys to him, or to me, I will make sure it is made available. Thanks for sharing the info. Lightening Protection on Irwin 31

Ken I am in the process of rebuilding the stringers in my bilge and the floor of the cabin. With the floor gone, I noticed that the mast plate is wired to a grounding plate recessed in the hull under the forward hanging locker. It looks like the shrouds are wired together and probably the forestay and aftstay, but none of the shrouds or stays are wired to the grounding plate. Does your manual show this to be the case? It seems to me I have read that they all should be grounded together. Also the wire diameter connecting the stays seems a bit small. If your are planning to scan your Irwin 31 manuals and post them great. If not, I would love to have a copy. Harry Anderson FREEDOM 1983 Irwin 31 hsanderson2@aol.com 302-733-0289

Back to Harry on the Ground system

Howdy Harry, A bit late, but I just cought your message on this thread. My 1982 Citation 31 had all the stays / shrouds bonded to the grounding plate, along with the mast base. The grounding plate was not recessed into the hull, but was instead just bolted thru the hull, in the hanging closet. Two bolts protruded thru, with all the ground wires converging there. In the NorthWest, lightning is not much of an issue, and I did not want the ground plate causing any drag on the outside of the hull, during the rebuild of the boat, I have removed the system. Lightning Protection

Tom, Thanks. The ground plate is recessed into the hull on my 1983 Irwin 31. After I made the post, I was able to comfirm that the stays and shrouds are all connected to this plate. The wire thickenss still seems a bit small for the application, but I guess Bill did his homework. During a race in the Upper Chesapeake about 20 years ago, a boat was hit by lightning. It was not protected adequately and the bolt jumped from the mast base to the water through the hull and blew a hole in the hull. The boat sank in minutes. Fortunately, many other racers were around and assisted.
