I need a Mast, rigging and Sail's for my Hunter 185, but nobody in Utah knows anything about sailing. Can anybody give me part numbers and suppliers? Also need many other items for the boat. All galley parts. Water tank, sink, light panel, stove, cooler, potty, bilge pump. Any part numbers would be appreciated. My boat was vandalized before I bought it and looks kind of naked without a mast and sails. Thank You Ron

Vandalized?

With a list of missing parts THAT long, I think it was more like 'Stripped'! Anyway, There is a link to the Hunter factory on the main page of this site. You may want to try giving them a call to find out who the original equipment manufacturers for your missing parts are. I'll take my best guesses, though- For the mast and boom, I'd try US Spars in Gainesville, FL (http://www.usspars.com). For the sails, I'd recommend purchasing from the chandlery on this site- They have a competitive deal for good quality sails. For the interior items, try the web sites for West Marine (http://www.westmarine.com), Defender (http://www.defenderusa.com), or Boater's World (http://www.boatersworld.com). They have fair prices on many of your other missing items (e.g. Porta Pottis, water tankage, pumps, wiring, etc.). The Galley: From the pictures on this site, it appears that the original design had a 5-gallon bucket for a sink- that could be emptied overboard. Any cooler that fits in the provided space will work- and I've found that there's never enough room in the cooler for everything, anyway! The stove looks like an Origo 1000 single-burner non-pressurized alcohol unit- Very nice, but a touch pricey. Available at most marine stores (see above), or maybe an RV supply store. For interior cushions, a local upholstery shop should be able to help- Be sure you specify a material that holds up well to water and UV rays. West Marine also has a pretty good deal for rigging, which your boat will need. I'd bet that this boat never had a bilge pump. There's really no place to put one. It's never a bad idea to have a manual pump on board, but you could always use the "sink" (5-Gal bucket) in a pinch. One side-related note, it seems that all of the gear on this boat is placed to starboard. I'd be careful when re-equipping this boat to try to keep the weight evenly distributed- If the cooler, water tank, and outboard motor are to the right, I'd put the battery, any electronic gear, and the fuel tank to the left. It sounds like you'll be doing a pretty thorough restoration on this boat (I hope you got a SUPER deal on it!). If you can, I'm sure the small boat forum here would LOVE to see pictures of the work in progress, and we're also available to offer suggestions on how to accomplish some of the tasks you're facing. There's a TON of experience and information here, and all you have to do is ask! Welcome aboard, --Jon Bastien H25 'Adagio'

Contact the Factory

If you contact the Hunter factory they can help you with most of the things you're talking about. If you need so much maybe you can talk to them about a package price???? (nothing ventured, nothing gained!) I suspect that buying all the pieces is going to be like buying a car by the piece.

Lots of money

With all that you need to purchase, you should seriously consider finding another boat, maybe a Catalina 22. There are many to be found at good prices here in the West. I have been shopping for sails recently for my 18.5. Visit the Airforce site at www.sailnet.com/airforce. Their prices are much better than the chandlery here and the design seems better, also. The original mast is a Z-spar. Check out www.rigrite.com. The 18.5 owners on this site are very helpful and enthusiastic about sharing information. Let us know when you need some help.
