I brought a great boat but I can't get it home from Piermont New York ( 20 miles up the Hudson River from NYC ). Batting zero getting or renting a trailer to move it 30 miles. Haulers want $800 for a one way move. I have a power boat trailer which is big enough with two bunks which are too low by about 3 inches for the swing keel to fit nicely. Does anyone have any pictures or suggestions on how I need to set up the powerboat trailer to accomodate my Catalina 22? Are bunks okay if I raise them or do I need another kind of setup? Are there any stress points that I need to address or avoid? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. I need help.

modify the bunks

Hello, You should be able to modify the bunks on your trailer to work. Why not just bolt on some 4 X 4 blocks? My trailer has 4 bunks, two are flat and two are angled to match the hull. Worst case you can borrow my trailer. I am in Suffolk county, near Port Jefferson NY. Barry

Support the keel

Craig you should be able to raise the bunks the 3 inchs with out a problem, however you do need to support the keel. It can not hang on the keel cable and bounce around the entire 30 miles. You will trash the cable, the winch or worse the keel trunk. The keel weighs 550 lbs so what ever you do to support it, it needs to be stout. Best case is weld a cross beam in place, put a couple of "ears" in the middle of the beam and put a rubber bow V on the support this will cradle the keel and then you are on your way. If you have a great distance from the front of the bunk to the bow post you may wish to add another support for the bow in the same fashion as the keel. After you have the trailer ready you will love your boat. Great trailer boat and still is large enough to camp on for the weekend. Enjoy Herb S/V DayDream

Thanks for your interest

Barry, I went to add some blocks to the existing bunks and the marina had put another boat on my trailer. The marina said it wouldn't work and I am not sure if he is upset that I am not taking the winter storage or being helpful. Still have one or two options but might ask to take ypou up on your helpful offer to lend me a trailer for a day. Thanks for your interest. Craig Cronheim ccronheim@email.com.

Trailer

Hi Craig, I can't imagine why making the bunks thicker would not work work, but what do I know? You can borrow my trailer if you need it. We would need to raise my boat up off it, then put it back on, but I'm sure we can do that. Barry

C22 Trailer Spec's.

Contact Catalina Yachts in Woodland Hills and ask to speak to Gerry Douglas, their Engineer. He sent me via fax several sheets for a fixed stand and trailer brochures which show the lifting and setting points for hanging or trailering a C22. The picture diagram was worth a thousand words and we then took the pictures to a trailer manufacturer and had a custom trailer built.
