After watching the cup races I was wondering if I could paint or dye a design on my Doyle head sail. Its the standard 26X jib, I hope to upgrade to a furling as soon as I learn more about them. I'm sure it will be replaced with a genoa, so I don,t seem so concerned about total failure, I was thinking about testing with thoses large magic markers where the colors dont't run. What do you think? Also if anybody has any info on a rolling furling for the Macgregor 26X and where to have it done in Pa. N.J. It would be great to hear from you. THANKS

Sail Designs

Hi Phil, Welcome to the Doyle Sailmakers Forum. There are several ways to put logo's or designs on sails. We do many different Corporate and Private logo's, but the methods vary depending on the material. Because your Sail is Dacron, and Dacron is a plastic, it is most practical to do an adhesive applique. You can try certain acrylic paints but flexing of the sail may result in the paint peeling off. Markers or very fluid paints may bleed into the woven fabric. You may wish to get a small sample of Dacron Sailcloth from a sailmaker to experiment with. We have a loft near you, City Island NY. You can go to the the Doyle website, www.doylesails.com and click on the map to contact any of our Doyle Facilities.
