I'm looking for a depthfinder that has a transducer that will "shoot" through the hull. I don't want a transom mount or a thru-hull that requires drilling a hole. Anybody had any success with this. Make/model? Thanks

Through Hull Transducer

Jim, I'm not a 26X owner, but I do have a 25. Two years ago I installed my transducer to shoot through the hull and it works really well. Because the 26X has a ballast tank, you may have a problem doing what you want to do and having it work as it should. Buy a copy of Sail Magazine's book titled "Things That Work". The directions are layed out pretty well in the book with a host of other things that sailboat owners have devised. Basically, you mount and seal a piece of proper diameter pvc pipe to fit the size of your transducer in the bilge of your boat as close to the centerline as possible. You then fill this sub withe water to cover the transducer and then screw on the cap. Works great on my 25, but I'm not sure if you can use this system. Happy sailing. Marty

depth finder

Most all new flat tranducers will work thru hull. I put mine in the front starboard side storage area under rear berth. Place about 1 - 2 inches to right of ballast tank. Before epoxying in you can use peanut butter to stick transducer to floor to test. Just smoth peanut butter on transducer and press onto floor being sure all air is out. It is best if transducer does not squeeze all butter (or epoxy) out. Mine, a "cheapy", works fine in all conditions and depths up to 140 ft, so far.

Of interest.....

My thru-hull depth finder works better in salt water than in fresh water. I haven't figured that one out yet?
