I would like to install a depth sounder primarilly for the purpose of knowing how deep when anchoring. I want to make the installation in hull. I've narrowed down my choice to the Humminbird Piranhamax 215 fishfinder or the Uniden QT 206 in hull. Can anyone expand on this or give me some feedback on their experiences. I'm leaning to the Uniden because the Piranha would require an arm install and the uniden readout could be mounted on the bulkhead. Thanks...

Nice N Easy

I think the Uniden

is the exact same unit as the Hawkeye and a couple of others. I installed a Hawkeye on my last boat. Super simple instalation, and it was very accurate and dependable. I mounted the transducer in the hull, and just shot through. Worked like a champ for several years, and was still working good when I sold the boat.
If you want a fish finder, then the Hummingbird will serve you well.

I installed Humming Bird with digital read out and thru the hull transducer. it is very accurate and was very easy to install. I am not a fisherman so wasn't interested in a fish finder.

I went with a Hummingbird 100. It was much cheaper than the alternatives and, even though I'm not a fisherman, I really like looking at the bottom contour instead of just a number. I installed a piece of 6" pvc pipe and filled the bottom with fiberglass resin and installed the stern-mount sounder in the resin and shot through the hull. It worked fine but I have to clean the contacts on the back of the display frequently.

Good luck,

garmin

396, I use it in my airplane, boat, car, etc. it has XM realtime uplink weather, sonar, streets, and charts for marine and aviation along with all the other gps goodies, speed, eta, course plotter
there isn't a better all around unit available for the price.

I still have a hawkeye 2" bottom sounder that I bought for $80 @ WM that works great too!

just a thought if you were going to get a gps also,
