Depth Sounder

My SR Mariner depth sounder gives depth readings while under motor power. However, when I cut power and go to sail the readings become erratic. Any Ideas about what is going on? ThanksJohn

Off the top of my head

I would say you are probably not getting full voltage when the engine is not running...either because of corrosion on some terminal connecting the sounder, or weak battery(s). When the engine is running(and producing higher (13.8volts)voltage) it probably is enough to properly power the instrument.

Thanks Steve, the batteries on this boat are old and were discharged when I bought her.
