Ticking

You are probably hearing the bursts of ultrasonic energy being transmitted by the transducer. If you have an in hull installation rather than a thru hull, the hull can amplify these bursts. Also it is sometimes possible to hear these on VHF and domestic radios due to break through. Nothing much to be done other than turning the sounder off.

Clicking sound...

I'm a little confused - is the sound coming from the transducer or the display? Has it always done this, or is this something new? How loud is it? A technician once had me confirm that my depthsounder was working by listening for the click. Sure enough, it was there if I listened close to the transducer. Certainly was not audible more than a couple of feet away. A couple of suggestions (and that's all they are): you could have a damaged piezo element in your transducer that is loose and "hitting" something when the transmitter pulse comes along. Or, if the click is coming from the instrument, it could be a transformer in the transmitter circuitry in which the core is somehow being "rattled" at the pulse frequency. Derek
