Hi! I've been trying to install a uniden qt-206 depth sounder that came with an Airmar shoot-through-the-hull transducer in my 25. I've been testing the boat over using the bag of water trick and cannot get the sounder to read more that 2.8, when hanging it over the side will read 14 (or something more like the actual depth). I've tried under the vberth and under the aft berth. Any ideas?

Shoot Through Hull

Ian, I had a similar dilemma when installing a fishfinder transducer in my 38. I finally opted to use silicone and glued the transducer into my prefered spot beneath the vee-berth. IT WORKS PERFECTLY! I chose silicone over epoxy so I could move or remove the transducer if necessary. It has been in place for 2 years and still works perfectly. Whatever method of attachment You choose, be sure there are NO air bubbles in the adhesive. good luck, Dave SV Pretty Lady Catalina 38 #148

Agree with Dave

But I used the epoxy included with the through hull transducer kit from Lowrance. In order to find the proper location, I wetted the transducer, and then pressed it directly against the inside of the hull. This gave me MUCH better results than the baggy of water. Epoxied it in place and have had beautiful readings ever since. Best of Luck, Rob
