Has Anyone out there had any experience installing a depth/fish finder on a Venture(V21)? I have a Hummingbird model that says the sensor can be installed on the inner side of the hull bottom using epoxy (after determining the exact best location)and will read the depth right through the hull. I think this would be preferable to mounting on the transom to be battered if I have a careless moment guiding the boat back on the trailer. Any suggestions? bruce

Transducer Mount

I have my transducers on two boats mounted in epoxy in the bilge. I think it's the only way to go.

test location 1st w/ silicone

I also mounted mine in the laz with epoxy. (26D) you can use clay, or silicone at a test. main thing is not to have any air pockets between the 'puck' and the water. never cut the cable for the transducer....

I brought this conversation up (once again)when I was asking for clarification on the 3 types of transducers. I just ordered a Humminbird Matrix 12 finder. The tranducer is a transom-type presumably like yours. I'm waving the water temperature feature goodbye and gluing it into the laz rather than externally on the transom.

just be sure that the transducer is mounted in an area of the hull that is always in the water, regardless of tack, and remember the depth starts at bottom of keel...so add keel to depth when using depth alarm.
