On my H-260, I have a standard horison depth finder which I just today got rewired and working. My problem is: I don't know how to operate it. The read out head is a white plastic box about 1.5" X 4" with a screen for value readings and three buttons on the right side: Top one is labelled Depth, middle one is Alarm On and bottom one says Alarm Off. How do you turn it off? How do you set the depth levels for alarming. I have no book on the device.

three buttons four possibilities

Try pressing any two buttons at the same time. There may even be a small indicator below the correct buttons to tickle you memory. Another possibility is holding any one of the buttons down for 5 seconds or so. You can't break it from the front panel so just experiment. or You could try googling SH and see if they have an online manual.

goggling of the internet in which I personally searched the entire internet (only took me 0.02 seconds!!!) I found this PDF file. Looks like your unit. the file is down near the bottom of the page.

Depth Difficulty Deposed

Thanks so much! That link provided the pdf file of exact owner manual for my unit. Now, I will be able to operate it properly and looks like I need to install an on/off switch for it. Any contributors on type of switch to use and location of the switch? I have a pedestal with a drink holder starboard top on which the control unit is mounted.

Use a circuit breaker

While it is not a regulation, I think you will find that most of the sailing community has all their "low current draw" (depth, wind, speed) instruments running off one 5 amp circuit breaker mounted on the DC electrical panel. That way you can turn on everything at once.
