My research for the best anchor rope for the Chesapeake Bay is 3 strand braided nylon. How do you attache the depth markers to braided nylon?

permanent marker

Why not just make big black marks every 10 (or whatever) feet? Only problem is that you can't see them in the dark. Maybe some of that liquid rubber stuff that you dip tool handles in? Paint it on in intervals & you'll be able to feel it in the dark. LaDonna

Braided or twisted

Three strand is usually twisted rather than braided. If it's twisted just untwist the line a bit, slide the marker through and re-twist. It'll get tighter with use. If it's a braided line just sew the marker to the line with some whipping twine. Jim "Prospect"

Anchor rode

Bob: In my humble opinion, the very best anchor rode for all around use is New England rope 3 strand nylon. Nylon braid is a close second. I would recommend 200-250ft of 1/2 inch as primary rode for your boat. use about 20-30 ft of proof coil chain as chafe protection. Markers will slip right into the strands. Good luck, Dave S/V Westwind (Cat30)

Anchor rode markers

Bob; 3 strand twist is the best anchor line for your location, with about 20 feet of chain (I prefer hi tensile chain). I considered marking the rode every 30 feet, as recommended, but decided to use the low tech method. Outstreatched arms measure about 6 feet. Flake out 6 foot lengths on the deck to achieve the 7 to 1 ratio necessary for safe anchoring. Add another length or two for good measure. Close enough for me. PAT
